Trump shared a map on Truth Social depicting an expanded United States that incorporates Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Greenland, and Iceland, using the colors of the American flag to represent these territories.

Díaz-Canel asserted that Cuba will “never again become a colony or neocolony of any empire” and vowed to defend the nation's independence and self-determination. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez criticized the map, stating it would leave US citizens “geographically disoriented.”

In Mexico, President Sheinbaum stated that her government would not subordinate itself to any foreign power and rejected all forms of foreign interference. The diplomatic friction occurs amid heightened tensions, including a US economic embargo that Cuban authorities claim cost the island $8.083 billion between March 2025 and February 2026.
