Cuba denounces Israel's UN criticism as 'shameless' and rejects blockade accusations

Cuban Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, used the UN General Assembly’s right‑of‑reply to label Israel’s criticism of Cuba as “shameless.” He rejected the Israeli delegation’s accusations and asserted that Israel faces “unprecedented rejection by the international community” over what he described as genocide and grave violations of international law against the Palestinian people.

Soberón also accused Israel of repeating a “Washington‑written script” to justify the United States’ economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba, insisting that Havana will not accept any attempt to legitimize collective punishment of the Cuban people. The remarks came after a recent diplomatic victory in which 136 UN member states voted to bring the U.S. blockade’s humanitarian impact before the Assembly, a move praised by Cuban President Miguel Díaz‑Canel.
