Cuba denounces US blockade impact on healthcare at UN

At the United Nations, Cuban officials have denounced the United States blockade, stating it severely impacts public health and endangers lives. Ambassador Daylenis Moreno Guerra reported that the economic and energy restrictions are hindering essential services, particularly for women, children, and adolescents.

According to the Cuban representative, more than 34,000 pregnant women are unable to receive prenatal ultrasounds, and the infant mortality rate has doubled, currently exceeding 9.8 per 1,000 live births. The blockade is also reportedly obstructing international cooperation; over 7,000 containers, including United Nations donations, remain stalled in Caribbean ports, while other essential goods cannot be delivered due to fuel shortages.

Specific medical supplies donated by the UNFPA, including sexual and reproductive health kits, gynecobstetric equipment, and vital medications for childbirth, have faced significant delivery delays for over two months.
