Cuba deploys electric taxis to transport hemodialysis patients

Cuba has deployed several batches of electric vehicles to provide free transportation for patients undergoing hemodialysis. In Guantánamo, 20 Dongfeng electric cars have been put into service to assist 124 patients across local hospitals, including the Agostinho Neto General Teaching Hospital. These vehicles have an autonomy of 430 kilometers and are intended to be recharged via solar panels in the near future to ensure sustainability.

In Santiago de Cuba, the local taxi unit has acquired 10 electric vehicles to serve 106 patients with chronic renal failure at five different hospitals. This initiative is part of a broader national plan to deploy 400 Dongfeng electric vehicles to assist over 3,000 renal patients across 57 dialysis units nationwide.

The program is funded by the Public Transport Development Fund. Other acquisitions under this fund include microbuses, electric funeral vehicles, and electric tricycles intended for various transport needs across the country.
