Cuba marks 73rd anniversary of Moncada assault with provincial honors and summer festivities

Cuba commemorated the 73rd anniversary of the July 26 1953 assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks with a series of political recognitions and cultural‑sport events across the country. The Party’s Central Committee awarded the title of "Provincia Destacada" to Matanzas, Villa Clara, Guantánamo and Sancti Spíritus, while Pinar del Río was selected as the host for the national central act.

Provincial milestones were highlighted in Aguada de Pasajeros (Cienfuegos), which received the provincial act seat for the anniversary and was praised for economic surplus, housing investments and renewable‑energy projects. In other provinces, summer opening ceremonies featured music, dance, sports tournaments and fairs: Pinar del Río opened its summer on José Martí Avenue with youth performances and a gastronomy fair; Media Luna in Granma hosted a parade of music, charanga and games; Santiago de Cuba inaugurated the season in the Alameda with a school‑sports festival, folk ballet and the "Verano con mi gente" programme.

The events underscored the Cuban government's emphasis on solidarity, youth participation, renewable energy use, agricultural productivity and cultural heritage as part of the national celebration.
