Cuba emigration continues to impact families and social fabric

The ongoing Cuban emigration crisis continues to impact families through both emotional reunions and the routine loss of community members. On social media, a viral video captured a woman, known as Rosy, reuniting with her mother in Cuba after a four-year separation, highlighting the personal toll of the island's exodus.

Reflections from residents on the island describe farewells as a routine part of daily life. Alejandro Rodríguez Cuervo noted that departures have become as common as the struggle to survive, driven not only by shortages of goods like oil and milk but by a perceived lack of future prospects. He observed that while emigrants carry little physical luggage, they face the significant emotional burden of nostalgia and the challenge of starting over in unfamiliar environments.
