Cuba expands Communist Youth Network with new community programs in Granma and Guantánamo

The Union of Communist Youth (UJC) in Cuba’s Granma province launched an expanded Youth Community Network aimed at strengthening local resistance, solidarity and development. The initiative includes civil defence activities, youth‑run energy‑tech projects, food‑production and employment programmes, digital‑media training, support for vulnerable groups and promotion of sports and culture.

In the neighbouring province of Guantánamo, the UJC, together with the Association of Saíz Brothers, organized a summer programme titled “Summer with My People”. The schedule features neighbourhood clean‑ups, a popular shooting festival, land‑use projects with the active military service, visits to prisons, outdoor cinema, arts workshops, theatre, dance and music events, and celebrations marking the centenary of Fidel Castro. The programme culminates with a youth march, a large bonfire and a gala in the provincial theatre.

Both efforts are presented by Cuban officials as ways for young people to address the country’s economic and social challenges through grassroots action.
