Cuba extends daylight saving time until November 2027

Cuba's Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security have announced that daylight saving time will be maintained until November 7, 2027. This decision is a response to the intensified economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States, which has led to an energy siege and fuel shortages for electricity generation.

By keeping the clocks advanced, authorities aim to prevent an estimated 126 MW increase in blackouts during peak evening demand. This includes 76 MW saved by reducing the need for artificial lighting and 50 MW gained from solar photovoltaic generation during those hours.

To mitigate the impact of later sunrises on social activities, school and work start times will be delayed by 30 minutes from November 1, 2026, to March 14, 2027. Employers are also authorized to adjust work schedules in coordination with unions to manage the energy crisis without affecting worker salaries.
