The United States has announced a new round of sanctions against Cuba, targeting the nickel mining sector and military research and development entities. According to the US Department of State, the measures aim to restrict the Cuban government's access to foreign currency generated by natural resources, which officials claim benefits a small military elite rather than the general population.

The sanctions target eight organizations and three military officials. Specifically, four companies involved in nickel extraction and production—Serconi, Ceproníquel, Cediniq, and Pinares S.A.—have been sanctioned. Additionally, four military-linked entities (Simpro, Cidnav, Cidai, and Gelcom) involved in producing simulators, electronics, and telecommunications equipment for weapons research and naval capabilities are also included.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has denounced these actions as a multidimensional aggression intended to provoke a humanitarian crisis. He reported that approximately 7,000 containers of food and medicine are currently stranded globally due to pressure exerted by the US on international shipping companies. While the US administration maintains these measures are necessary for national security, humanitarian groups and civil society organizations in various countries have expressed growing resistance to the economic blockade.
