The United States government has announced a new round of sanctions against 11 Cuban entities and individuals, targeting the island's nickel mining sector and military research capabilities. In the mining sector, the entities identified include SERCONI, CEPRONIQUEL, CEDINIQ, and Pinares S.A., which are involved in technical services, engineering, and mineral extraction. In the military sector, the sanctions affect SIMPRO, CIDNAV, CIDAI, and GELCOM, which are linked to the development of weaponry, naval capabilities, battlefield simulation, and electronic communications equipment.

Three specific military officials have been designated: Senior Colonel Joaquín Francisco Cancio Monteagudo (SIMPRO), Captain Dioglis Pedreira Argüello (CIDNAV), and Senior Colonel Julio Hurtado Betancourt (CIDAI). The sanctions include the blocking of assets under U.S. jurisdiction and restrictions on transactions with U.S. citizens and entities. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the administration intends to prevent the Cuban elite from profiting from natural resources while the general population faces economic hardship.
