Cuba faces heightened U.S. intelligence priority amid rising diplomatic tensions

Tensions between Cuba and the United States have escalated following discussions regarding Cuba's status within U.S. intelligence frameworks and ongoing economic pressures. Reports indicate that Cuba has been elevated to 'Priority 1' status within the U.S. National Intelligence Priorities Framework, placing it on the same level as China, Iran, and Russia. This classification is based on perceived threats of subversion, intelligence penetration, and ideological warfare rather than conventional military strength.

In response, Cuban officials have condemned U.S. actions as politically motivated attempts at domination. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Josefina Vidal described U.S. pressure as 'indignante' (outrageous), accusing Washington of using economic blockades to target the Cuban people. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel also addressed the situation, characterizing the economic blockade as a political punishment and noting reports of increased CIA operations intended to subvert internal order. These developments coincide with the international colloquium 'Fidel: legacy and future' held in Havana.
