Cuba faces new U.S. sanctions amid escalating tensions

The United States has imposed additional sanctions on Cuba, targeting state‑linked companies and sectors that provide foreign‑exchange earnings, including health supplies. Washington also released a report accusing the Cuban government of sponsoring terrorism and supporting radical left movements in the United States, claims that Havana rejects.

The Pentagon is reportedly assessing possible military options against Cuba, including a potential air assault, while Cuban officials warn of severe regional consequences. At the United Nations General Assembly, the U.S. measures and threats were debated, highlighting the impact on Cuba’s already fragile economy, which suffers from a collapsed tourism industry and widespread power outages.

Cuban authorities continue to stress the need for defense preparedness and condemn the U.S. actions as destabilising for both nations and the region.
