Cuba inaugurates first solar-powered electric vehicle charging station
Cuba has inaugurated its first rapid and ultra-rapid solar charging station for electric vehicles. Located on the National Highway near Santa Clara, the facility operates independently of the national electrical system.
Built and operated by the MSME Solguara, the station utilizes solar panels to provide two levels of service: rapid charging and ultra-rapid charging. It features connectors compatible with various international standards. Beyond vehicles, the station offers free charging for mobile phones, fans, and rechargeable lamps.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to increase renewable energy use and address the country's energy crisis. Similar solar installations, known as ‘solineras’, are already functioning in other areas of Santa Clara, such as the Virginia community and various residential districts.
