Cuba informal currency market: MLC rises as dollar and euro stabilize

On August 17, 2026, Cuba's informal currency market showed mixed performance. While the U.S. dollar and the euro remained relatively stable compared to previous sessions, the Moneda Libremente Convertible (MLC) experienced a significant increase.

Reports indicate the U.S. dollar held steady at approximately 664 to 665 Cuban pesos (CUP). Despite this recent stability, the dollar has seen a decline of roughly 8.5 pesos over the past week. The euro also showed stability, with rates reported around 760 to 770 CUP, marking a slight daily increase but a decrease compared to the previous week.

The most notable movement was seen in the MLC, which rose sharply toward the 500 CUP mark, reaching values between 464 and 470.69 CUP. Other currencies, such as the Canadian dollar and the Mexican peso, experienced slight decreases during the same period.
