Cuban informal currency market shows steady dollar and rising euro amid shortages

In Cuba's informal foreign‑exchange market, the US dollar ended the day at 674 Cuban pesos (CUP), unchanged from the previous session, while the euro held at 785 CUP, remaining the most expensive currency. The freely convertible MLC (peso libremente convertible) fluctuated around 480‑491 CUP, reflecting limited transaction volume and ongoing scarcity of hard currency.

In Mexico, the peso continued to modestly appreciate against the US dollar. On Sunday 26 July, the exchange rate was about 17.48 MXN per dollar, a slight decline from the prior close. Weekly gains placed the peso among the top‑performing emerging‑market currencies, and banks quoted buy rates ranging from 16.25 MXN (Banco Azteca) to 17.99 MXN (Bank of America). The Bank of Mexico's reference rate (FIX) was 17.4635 MXN per dollar.
