Cuba informal currency market sees dollar and euro hold steady
Cuba's informal currency market showed stability for major foreign currencies as of mid-August 2026. The US dollar and the euro both concluded recent sessions at steady rates, following a period of gradual decline.
The US dollar held at 664 Cuban pesos (CUP), continuing a weekly downward trend of approximately 1.3% from its value of 673 CUP seven days prior. Over the last month, the dollar has fluctuated between 655 and 675 CUP.
The euro remained unchanged at 760 CUP, maintaining its position as the dominant currency in the parallel market, valued 96 pesos higher than the dollar. Despite recent stability, the euro saw a weekly decline of roughly 2.6% to 2.9%.
The Moneda Libremente Convertible (MLC) experienced a decline, closing at an indicative value of approximately 435 to 454 CUP depending on the specific session. Due to low transaction volumes, these MLC figures are considered indicative.
