Cuba informal currency market sees rise in dollar and euro rates

The informal currency market in Cuba has seen a rise in the value of both the US dollar and the euro against the Cuban peso. As of late August and early September 2026, the US dollar reached rates between 676 and 678 Cuban pesos (CUP).

The euro has shown a stronger ascent, trading at approximately 765 CUP, maintaining a significant lead over the dollar in the parallel market. Over the past week, the euro has seen a weekly increase of roughly 1.3% to 1.7%.

Meanwhile, the Freely Convertible Currency (MLC) has shown signs of decline, with indicative values dropping to around 464 CUP. These fluctuations reflect ongoing pressure on the Cuban peso driven by a persistent shortage of foreign currency.
