Cuba informal currency market: US dollar and euro rates

The informal currency exchange market in Cuba has shown recent fluctuations, with the US dollar and euro maintaining significant value against the Cuban peso (CUP).

As of early September 2026, the US dollar has experienced upward pressure. Reports indicate the dollar reached approximately 685 CUP, following a recent increase of 5 pesos. Over a 30-day period, the dollar has seen a general rise of roughly 1.5%.

The euro remains strong in the parallel market, trading at approximately 780 CUP. This rate represents one of the higher levels observed in recent sessions, maintaining a substantial lead over the US dollar.

In contrast, the MLC (Moneda Libremente Convertible) has seen a decline, dropping to approximately 453.85 CUP. Other currencies, such as the Canadian dollar, have also recorded decreases. These informal rates, which are not set by the Central Bank of Cuba, serve as critical references for citizens managing remittances and purchasing foreign goods.
