Cuba informal currency market: US dollar hits 30-day high
In Cuba's informal currency market, the U.S. dollar reached a 30-day high, closing at 683 Cuban pesos (CUP) on Thursday, September 3rd. This reflects a five-peso increase from the previous day and a nearly 2% rise over the past week.
The euro also saw gains, closing at 773 CUP. It remains the most valuable major reference currency in the parallel market, having climbed approximately 17 pesos over the last week.
The MLC (Moneda Libremente Convertible) showed an indicative value of 509 CUP, though transaction volumes remain low, making this figure an estimate.
The rising informal rates continue to widen the gap with the official exchange rates set by the Central Bank of Cuba, which are 638 CUP per dollar and 739 CUP per euro.
