Cuba introduces 44 electric cargo vehicles for medical supplies
Cuba's Minister of Transport, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, has announced the addition of 44 electric cargo vehicles to the national fleet to ensure the transport of medical supplies and medicines across all provinces.
The initiative aims to address fuel shortages caused by economic and energy restrictions imposed by the United States. To support the transition to renewable energy, the government has also contracted charging stations equipped with solar photovoltaic panels to power the new units.
In Havana, 20 units will be operated by the company Transmed, which previously focused on transporting healthcare workers but will now also handle medical cargo. The remaining vehicles will be distributed among provincial transport companies to support medical services in each territory. The acquisition includes maintenance and repair supplies to ensure the long-term utility of the fleet.
