Cuba launches new telenovela 'Entre Aguas' as country faces record electricity shortages
Cubavisión announced that the Cuban telenovela "Entre Aguas" will premiere on 1 July 2024. The series is a joint production with the Casa Productora de Telenovelas and is directed by Felo Ruiz, co‑directed by Vicky Suárez and produced by Alexander Alfonso. The main cast includes Alejandro Cuervo, Alfredo González, Flora Borrego, Litzandra Batista and several other well‑known Cuban actors.
The debut comes amid Cuba's most severe electricity crisis in history. The national grid recorded a deficit of 2 208 MW, triggering long‑lasting blackouts that have disrupted television broadcasting in Havana and other provinces. Viewers reported that digital TV signals are frequently lost, some regions have been reduced to a single channel, and power outages have lasted up to 85 hours. Social‑media comments mocked the timing of the show, noting that many Cubans cannot watch it without power, while protests over the outages have increased nationwide.
