Cuba lifts minimum wage by 53% while Spain rules out extra rise this year

Cuba's Ministry of Labor and Social Security approved a 53% increase to the national minimum wage, raising it from 2,100 to 3,210 Cuban pesos (CUP) and setting a new hourly minimum of 16.84 CUP. The change took effect on 1 July and will be reflected in August payrolls. A new salary scale for the budgeted sector was also introduced, covering 32 complexity groups with wages ranging from 3,210 to 14,535 CUP.

In Spain, State Secretary for Labour Joaquín Pérez Rey told reporters that the government will not carry out an extraordinary revision of the minimum wage before the end of 2024, despite calls from the UGT union. He said inflation levels do not justify an immediate adjustment and that negotiations for the 2027 minimum wage will begin after the summer, with inflation still to be considered in future dialogue with social partners.
