Cuba officials inspect territorial defense zones
Cuban officials are conducting inspections of territorial defense zones to evaluate preparedness for exceptional situations. In San Miguel del Padrón, Vice President of the National Defense Council Salvador Valdés Mesa and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz visited the Jacomino Defense Zone. The area, serving approximately 31,000 residents, utilizes 26 production and defense brigades. Discussions focused on social and economic sustainability, including waste collection, support for vulnerable populations, and healthcare services through local clinics and family doctors.
In Matanzas, members of the Provincial Defense Council, led by Mario Sabines Lorenzo, inspected a local defense zone to review its functionality and community engagement. Brigadier General Alexander Rivero Díaz emphasized the need for organizational clarity and self-criticism to improve operations. Local officials reported that efforts include instructing workers at various institutions and identifying vulnerable groups, such as children and pregnant women, to provide targeted assistance.
Both inspections highlighted the role of non-state economic actors and small businesses in addressing challenges such as energy shortages and water supply issues. Authorities are also working on alternative food preparation methods and ensuring energy support for communication centers.
