Cuba participates in Non-Aligned Movement anniversary meeting in Serbia

A Cuban delegation, led by First Vice Minister of Foreign Relations Gerardo Peñalver Portal, is participating in a high-level commemorative meeting marking the 65th anniversary of the first Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) conference.

During the event, Peñalver met with Dušan Kozarev, the Secretary General of the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to review bilateral relations and discuss ways to deepen ties between the two nations. Peñalver also used the opportunity to address the impact of the United States blockade on Cuba, citing energy restrictions, unilateral sanctions, and military threats as significant challenges to daily life on the island.

In addition to official diplomatic meetings, the Cuban envoy met with Serbian parliamentarians, business leaders, and members of solidarity movements to discuss the ongoing effects of Washington's policies. The NAM, founded in Belgrade in 1961, serves as a political coordination space for over 120 states that choose not to align with major power blocs.
