Cuba power outages cause significant loss of productive time
Ongoing power outages in Cuba are causing profound social and personal disruption beyond the loss of electricity. Writer and activist Yasser Sosa Tamayo has highlighted that the electrical crisis forces citizens to dedicate significant portions of their day to basic survival tasks, such as searching for water, cooking, and preserving food.
Sosa argues that these blackouts effectively steal time from the population, preventing people from working, studying, or resting. He noted that while electricity may eventually return, the hours lost to managing the crisis are irretrievable. Citizens have reported extreme conditions, including blackouts lasting 26 hours followed by only single hours of power, leading to widespread hardship regarding heat, hunger, and sanitation.
