Cuba prepares for 65th National Baseball Series amid new sponsorship regulations
The Villa Clara baseball team has officially received its combat flag in preparation for the 65th National Baseball Series, which is scheduled to begin on October 4. During the ceremony, local authorities presented the banner to team captain Mailon Tomás Alonso. The event included the signing of an ethics code by the athletes, pledging discipline and respect, and a tribute to benefactor Martha Abreu de Estévez.
Separately, Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo, president of the Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation, announced new financing opportunities for the sport under recent regulatory changes. The new laws allow for private sponsorship to extend beyond specific teams to include various territories, facilities, and equipment. This shift aims to allow provinces to manage funds for essential needs such as food, lodging, transportation, and fuel, rather than relying solely on the state budget. Contracts for national-level sponsorships are to be channeled through Cubadeportes S.A.
