Cuba President Díaz-Canel prioritizes national defense

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has reaffirmed that national defense remains the country’s top priority during a visit to the Alamar Este Zone Defense Council. The visit coincided with National Defense Day.

Díaz-Canel emphasized the need to strengthen practical exercises for the population, ensuring citizens are familiar with protection sites, access routes, and necessary actions during various emergency situations. He cited hostile statements from the United States government as a primary driver for maintaining high defensive readiness.

The Alamar Este defense zone covers over nine square kilometers and serves approximately 36,000 residents. The structure utilizes more than 40 production and defense brigades organized by economic and social centers. Beyond security, these structures manage community tasks such as food production on 85 hectares of land, waste collection, and local hygiene initiatives to maintain organizational readiness during peacetime.
