Cuba President Miguel Díaz‑Canel visits Havana's Latinoamericano Defense Zone to launch social projects

More than 19,300 residents live in the Latinoamericano Defense Zone in the Cerro municipality of Havana. On Friday, President of the Council of National Defense Miguel Díaz‑Canel arrived to review the zone’s “war of all the people” strategy. In a meeting with zone president Ramón Rivero Pérez, he discussed protection of key economic assets, the work of Production and Defense Brigades, water supply, urban gardens, and waste collection.

Rivero highlighted assistance to vulnerable families, the 150 people in a transit community, and over 100 beneficiaries of the Family Care System. The Youth Community Network’s role in defense, production, communication and solidarity was also noted. Plans announced include the opening of a seniors’ home for about 60 people and the installation of two solar‑powered “solineras” for community electricity. Díaz‑Canel stressed rapid legal mechanisms, security and political guarantees for the ongoing economic and social transformations. Other officials present were Assembly President Esteban Lazo Hernández and senior military leaders Álvaro López Miera and Lázaro Álvarez Cas.
