Cuba reforms agricultural sector to boost food production

Cuba has implemented agricultural reforms through the approval of Law No. 185, the Agricultural and Forestry Land Law, along with 18 other legal provisions. The initiative aims to increase food production to address low food availability and declining agricultural yields.

The new framework seeks to expand the distribution of land to individuals and legal entities, including state, private, mixed, and cooperative organizations. The reforms are designed to provide farmers, cooperatives, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and companies with greater management autonomy and to encourage more land to enter production.
