Cuba relaxes vehicle importation and commercialization rules

Cuba has introduced new regulations to ease the transmission, importation, and commercialization of vehicles. According to the Official Gazette, the new framework eliminates the previous limit that restricted individuals and legal entities to acquiring only six vehicles every five years.

The measures also expand the number of authorized entities permitted to sell vehicles and allow non-state legal entities to assemble and market electric vehicles, including motorcycles and cars. To promote the national energy matrix, the government is exempting special sales taxes on electric vehicles purchased alongside renewable energy charging stations.

Additionally, Cuban collaborators working on official missions abroad are now permitted to import or purchase vehicles with up to eight passengers through any authorized dealer. Taxes on buses and microbuses have also been reduced to support the recovery of public transportation.
