Cuba reports 49 gender-based murders processed by courts in 2025
Cuba's official Gender Equality Observatory reported that Cuban courts processed 49 cases of women aged 15 and older murdered for gender-based reasons in 2025. This figure represents a rate of 1.19 victims per 100,000 women, marking a decrease from 76 cases in 2024 and 60 cases in 2023.
La Habana recorded the highest number of cases with 12, followed by Mayabeque, Camagüey, and Holguín with six cases each. Data indicates that 46.9% of the victims were killed by an ex-partner, and 89.7% of the crimes occurred within a residence. The majority of victims were between the ages of 20 and 44, and 75.5% had no employment link.
The impact on families is significant, as 32 of the victims had minor children, leaving 54 children without maternal care. While official figures show a downward trend, independent observatories such as Yo Sí Te Creo and Alas Tensas verified 48 feminicides during the same period.
