Cuba resists intensified US sanctions under Trump administration

The Cuban government is maintaining its stance against increased economic pressure from the United States, despite the country facing a potential economic collapse and a failing electrical grid. During a campaign rally in Florida, Donald Trump signaled that Cuba would be a primary target for his administration following actions against Iran, suggesting naval maneuvers to exert control near the island's coast.

Trump's administration has escalated sanctions to unprecedented levels, including cutting off oil supplies essential for Cuba's power grid and threatening military intervention. The US has demanded that Havana open its political and economic systems, facilitate the return of emigrants, and sever ties with adversaries such as Russia and China.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla has rejected these demands, stating that the government will not be forced into agreements through coercion. While the gap between wealthy and impoverished citizens widens, the communist leadership appears to be betting on outlasting the current US administration's term.
