Cuba rolls out summer cultural‑sports programme in Cienfuegos and joins Caribbean Festival
The province of Cienfuegos launched the "Verano con mi gente" summer programme on 27 June, keeping more than 150 schools open as cultural and recreational centres for children and adolescents throughout July and August. The initiative includes health monitoring at beaches, alcohol‑testing checkpoints on routes to coastal resorts, and certifications for 27 beaches, with only one area closed for sanitation reasons. Cultural activities feature community art tours, concerts, exhibitions and performances marking the centenary of Fidel Castro’s birth, while sport events involve over 900 athletes competing in 32 disciplines, school festivals and a domino championship.
Separately, Guantánamo province took part in the 45th Festival del Caribe (Fiesta del Fuego) in Santiago de Cuba from 3–5 July. Representative Ury Rodríguez Urgellés led a popular‑theatre workshop, presented the play "Campo minado", and the province’s group "Robertico y su Síncopa Uno" showcased the traditional changüí music, highlighting Cuba’s cultural exchange with Colombia, a partner country in the festival.
