Cuba signs message to Pope Leo XIV at UNESCO
María del Carmen Herrera Caseiro, Cuba’s ambassador and permanent delegate to UNESCO, has signed a message addressed to Pope Leo XIV in Paris. The message is part of a collection of peace messages from member states to be presented to the Pope during his upcoming official visit to the UNESCO headquarters on September 25.
The visit, organized at the invitation of UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany, will focus on themes of human dignity, peace, and dialogue. Cuba’s contribution to the commemorative book includes references to the thoughts of Fidel Castro Ruz during his centenary year.
In the message, Herrera Caseiro reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to sovereignty and peace while denouncing the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States. She emphasized that building peace in the minds and souls of people is essential for a world defined by solidarity and cooperation.
