Cuba specialists clarify solar panel installation discussions

Specialists in Cuba have clarified recent discussions regarding the mass installation of solar panels, denying that any official “alert” has been issued. Architect Dania González Couret, founder of Cuba Solar and professor at the Havana University of Technology, clarified that her previous comments regarding photovoltaic systems were personal professional opinions based on 30 years of experience, rather than official policy.

González Couret expressed support for utilizing urban rooftops for solar installations. She noted that using rooftops avoids the consumption of agricultural land required by large rural solar parks and provides the added benefit of protecting roof structures from solar radiation and heat.

Rosell Guerra Campaña, Director of Renewable Energies at the Ministry of Energy and Mines, also provided details regarding the country’s solar potential, current administrative procedures, and the technological benefits of solar energy in Cuba.
