Cuba to host international symposium on non-communicable diseases
Cuba will host the First International Symposium on Non-Communicable Diseases and Their Risk Factors in Havana on November 12 and 13. Held at the Cabaret Tropicana Convention Center, the event aims to discuss strategies to combat non-communicable diseases, which are identified as leading causes of global morbidity and mortality and a barrier to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
The symposium will address various conditions, including cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes, mental disorders, aging, obesity, and hypertension. The program features keynote lectures, specialized sessions, and scientific panels.
Medical specialists from Cuba, Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, and Sri Lanka are expected to participate. The event is organized by the Sudden Death Research Group (Gimus) and the Hermanos Ameijeiras Teaching Clinical-Surgical Hospital, with support from the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
