Cuba to potentially host major international Paralympic event

Andrew Parsons, president of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), has announced plans to work with the Paralympic Committee of the Americas to organize a major international adaptive sports event in Havana, Cuba.

During his first visit to the island, Parsons met with Cuban sports officials, including Omara Durand Elías, president of the Cuban Paralympic Committee. He toured various facilities, such as the High-Performance Athlete Training School (Esfaaar) Giraldo Córdova Cardín and the Solidarity with Panama educational center, to observe the integration of sports, rehabilitation, and education for youth with disabilities.

Parsons expressed admiration for Cuba's athletic tradition and the achievements of its Paralympic athletes despite the country's current economic challenges. He stated that the IPC's goal is to listen to local needs and identify ways to support the national movement through training, program access, and competitive growth.
