Cuba to trial influencer Anna Bensi for recording police officer

Cuban influencer Anna Sofía Benítez, known as Anna Bensi, and her mother, Caridad Silvente, are set to face trial in Havana for recording and publishing video of a police officer. The incident occurred on March 10, 2026, when an officer arrived at their home in Alamar to deliver a State Security summons.

Bensi stated that the recording was intended as a protective measure for their safety during the encounter. While the legal proceedings were initially archived on April 13, authorities reopened the case on July 6 following a complaint filed by the officer involved. The officer alleges that the video violated his privacy and exposed him to threats after his identity was revealed online.

The duo faces charges of crimes against personal and family privacy, as well as the use of another person's image, voice, and identity. Alain Espinosa, a lawyer for Cubalex, argued that the prosecution represents an attempt to criminalize human rights, noting that public officials' rights to privacy are restricted when performing public duties subject to citizen scrutiny.
