Cuba transfers monoclonal‑antibody technology to Vietnam and expands hepatitis diagnostics
Cuban biotech experts completed the transfer of monoclonal‑antibody production technology to Vietnam through the joint venture Genfarma. In a ceremony at the Hoa Lac High‑Tech Park, Vietnamese regulators awarded the plant a GMP certification, marking the first time Vietnam can produce the anti‑cancer antibody nimotuzumab (cimaher) for head‑and‑neck cancer. The ceremony highlighted the calibration of more than 120 pieces of equipment, thousands of laboratory analyses and extensive staff training.
Separately, Cuba is promoting its sovereign diagnostic platforms, including the UMELISA® series of tests for hepatitis B and C. The assays claim 99‑100 % sensitivity and specificity and are positioned for blood‑screening, donor selection and vaccine‑immunity verification. The rollout underscores Cuba’s broader strategy to export advanced biomedical tools for disease detection and treatment.
