Cuba reports diplomatic stalemate and fuel crisis amid U.S. pressure

Cuban officials have reported a complete standstill in diplomatic dialogue with the United States, noting that the two nations have failed to agree on even a basic agenda for negotiations.

Lianys Torres Rivera, Cuba’s top diplomat in Washington, described the current situation as a ‘war without bombs,’ citing the impact of the U.S. oil embargo. She noted that the fuel shortages have severely affected essential services, including healthcare, where thousands of patients are awaiting surgeries or dialysis due to power outages. Torres Rivera emphasized that Cuba is not a threat to the U.S. and seeks a relationship based on mutual respect.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla also addressed the situation, characterizing the restrictions on fuel as a ‘petroleum siege’ comparable to a naval blockade. He stated that the intensification of U.S. economic pressure has led to significant hardships for the Cuban people, including difficulties in importing basic goods and medical supplies.
