Cuba Vice Foreign Minister denounces media warfare

Carlos Fernández de Cossío, Cuba’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, has denounced what he describes as a ‘media war’ against the island. In a social media statement, the diplomat accused international media outlets of promoting hostile narratives that fail to identify the cause of Cuba’s current hardships.

Specifically, Fernández de Cossío criticized reports from U.S. media organizations, such as CNN and Univision, regarding the country’s fuel and energy shortages. He argued that while these reports accurately describe the difficult reality, they omit the role of the United States government in causing these shortages through coercive measures. He characterized this reporting as an ‘approach complicit with the punishment and the executioner who applies it.’

The Vice Minister asserted that such narratives attempt to legitimize what he termed a ‘genocide and collective punishment’ by obscuring the impact of the U.S. economic, commercial, and financial blockade on the daily lives of Cuban citizens.
