Cuban archer Hugo Franco reaches semifinals at Central American and Caribbean Games

Cuban archer Hugo Franco advanced to the semifinals of the men's recurve individual competition at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo after defeating Venezuela's Luis Vivas 6‑4 in the quarterfinals. The tournament was marked by extreme heat and shifting sea breezes, which the athletes said affected play.

In the qualification round Franco posted 671 points, finishing second only to Mexico's Matías Grande, who scored 672. Coach Reiter Téllez praised Franco’s performance and said the team is targeting a gold medal in both the individual and team events, with the next team match against El Salvador. Other Cuban archers, Iván Pérez and Javier Vega, placed 13th and 23rd respectively in the qualifiers.

Franco, a bronze‑medalist from the previous edition in San Salvador, expressed confidence that he can improve on his previous result and aim for the top podium spot.
