Cuban culture celebrated through festivals in Cuba and Spain
The Timbalaye: La Ruta de la Rumba festival was held in Cuba from August 20 to 23, spanning Havana, Matanzas, Mayabeque, and Camagüey. Founded in 1999, the annual event focuses on the preservation and promotion of Afro-Cuban traditions, particularly rumba, which was recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2016. This edition centered on the theme of 'cimarronaje,' highlighting the historical resistance and cultural identity formed by enslaved Africans in the Americas and the Caribbean.
In Spain, the 'La Pequeña Cuba' gastro-cultural festival is scheduled to take place in Torremolinos from August 27 to 30. Organized by the Asociación Cubanos Unidos in collaboration with the Torremolinos City Council, the event will feature Cuban gastronomy, music, folklore, and crafts at the Paseo Marifé de Triana. The programming includes live music, DJ sessions, and workshops aimed at celebrating Cuban traditions.
