Cuban Jornada Cucalambeana Festival Shifts to Las Tunas Parque Temático

The annual Jornada Cucalambeana, one of Cuba’s most prominent cultural celebrations, will be held from June 28 to early July in the Parque Temático Las Palmeras in Las Tunas. Organizers, led by provincial culture director Darlenis Urquiola, moved the majority of activities to the venue because of ongoing electricity shortages, fuel scarcity and other logistical challenges linked to the U.S. embargo.

The program honors the 197th birthday of poet‑musician Juan Cristóbal Nápoles Fajardo (“El Cucalambé”), the centenary of Fidel Castro’s birth, Raúl Castro’s 95th birthday and the 65th anniversary of the National Association of Small Farmers. Events will include concerts, traditional games for children and adults, crafts fairs, visual‑arts exhibitions and a competition for the “Flor de Birama”. The festival aims to preserve rural traditions while adapting to the country’s current economic constraints.
