Cuban Medical Mission participants allege theft of belongings from Venezuela

Participants of the Cuban Medical Mission in Venezuela are alleging the theft of personal belongings during their transport to Cuba. The shipments, managed by mission leadership and the state-owned company TRANSCARGO, were intended for collaborators who had traveled to Cuba on vacation and did not return to Venezuela.

According to reports, belongings from the Venezuelan states of Barinas, Amazonas, and Apure were collected and stored at Fuerte Tiuna in Caracas before being shipped via sea to the Mariel Port in Cuba. After sitting in the port for approximately six months, the cargo was sent to Santiago de Cuba.

Upon attempting to retrieve their items, many individuals reported that their luggage was missing, tampered with, or replaced. Victims claim to have received empty boxes or containers filled with stones, sticks, blocks, and foam instead of their original possessions. Affected individuals have shared photographic evidence of the damaged cargo and noted significant financial losses incurred from traveling to claim their goods.
