Cuban migrant rescued off Yucatán coast as others remain missing
A Cuban migrant has been rescued alive in the waters northeast of the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico. The individual, identified by some reports as Fermín Izquierdo from Mantua, Pinar del Río, was part of a group of six people traveling from Cuba toward Mexico.
The rescue occurred approximately 352 kilometers northeast of the port of Progreso, where a container ship provided assistance. Personnel from the Yucalpetén Search and Rescue Station subsequently transferred the man to land. He received medical treatment at the Yucalpetén Naval Hospital for dehydration and injuries resulting from prolonged exposure to the sun and seawater. He is reported to be in stable condition and remains under the custody of the National Institute of Migration.
The whereabouts of the other five members of the group remain unknown.
