Cuban President Díaz‑Canel denounces US genocide policy at 73rd Moncada anniversary FAST-MOVING

On July 26 2026, Cuba marked the 73rd anniversary of the 1953 Moncada assault with a central ceremony in Pinar del Río. President Miguel Díaz‑Canel led the event, read a recorded congratulatory message from former leader Raúl Castro, and urged a “historic battle” against what he called a U.S. genocidal policy.

Díaz‑Canel said the U.S. oil embargo imposed on 29 January 2026 and expanded sanctions have caused daily blackouts lasting more than 20 hours, forced the suspension of over 100 000 surgeries, crippled tourism and driven foreign companies out of the island. New sanctions target Cuba’s overseas medical missions. He described the blockade as a weapon of war that is killing Cubans and warned the United States seeks to appropriate the country.

The ceremony featured senior Cuban officials, cultural performances and was attended by thousands of citizens, while international solidarity groups sent supportive messages.
