Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel calls for agile social support

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has called for more agile, sensitive, and committed responses to address the needs of vulnerable families and individuals. Speaking during the radio program ‘Criterio Compartido’, Díaz-Canel emphasized that social issues should not be considered resolved until a comprehensive solution is achieved, urging officials to prioritize practical results over justifications.

The President noted that the intensification of the United States blockade and domestic energy limitations have worsened the country's economic and social situation, increasing the number of vulnerable citizens. He suggested that if existing regulations hinder the provision of aid, officials should seek alternative interpretations or modify the rules to better reflect everyday realities.

Currently, Cuba maintains more than 31 social programs designed to assist vulnerable sectors. Additionally, ongoing economic and social transformations include 12 thematic axes focused on social justice and personal care. Díaz-Canel highlighted the essential role of social workers in assessing family needs and recognized the contributions of both state institutions and sociocultural projects, such as Quisicuaba, in providing support.
