Cuban President Miguel Díaz‑Canel Celebrates 67th Anniversary of Prensa Latina
President Miguel Díaz‑Canel used the social platform X to congratulate state news agency Prensa Latina on its 67th anniversary. He noted that the agency’s work “grows today when the empire disguises its lies with high technology.”
Founded on 16 June 1959 by Fidel Castro, Che Guevara and Jorge Masetti to convey a Latin American perspective, Prensa Latina now operates 30 bureaus across four continents and runs a journalism school. Agency director Jorge Legañoa Alonso emphasized the outlet’s resilience through coups, dictatorships, attacks and kidnappings, and announced that by 2026 the agency will generate its own energy. He warned against monopolies in information, artificial intelligence and social‑media platforms.
