Cuban President Miguel Díaz‑Canel Visits Renovated Saíz Montes de Oca Monument in Pinar del Río

The monument honoring revolutionary brothers Luis and Sergio Saíz Montes de Oca in Pinar del Río has been renovated ahead of the 73rd anniversary of the 1957 assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks. The refurbishment added new LED lighting, restored concrete surfaces, and installed metal portraits of the brothers, with the work overseen by artist Enrique Ávila.

On the same day, President Miguel Díaz‑Canel arrived in Pinar del Río, laid a floral tribute at the monument, and presented Communist Youth Union and Party membership cards to distinguished students and workers. His itinerary included a visit to the 21.8 MW Santiago Miguel Cabañas Perojo photovoltaic plant, now supplying 89 MW to the national grid, and a meeting with tobacco farmer Isabel Cristina Barbosa Díaz to discuss land development and employment.

The combined events highlighted the government's emphasis on historical memory, renewable energy projects, and agricultural revitalisation in western Cuba.
