Cuba's informal currency market sees rise in dollar and euro

The U.S. dollar and euro have seen increases in Cuba's informal currency market. On Friday, August 28, 2026, the dollar reached an average value of 673 Cuban pesos (CUP), a 2.5-peso increase from the previous day and a 10-peso rise over the past week.

The euro was valued at 758 CUP, maintaining a lead of 85 pesos over the dollar. While the euro saw a slight daily fluctuation, it remains significantly higher than its value from one week ago.

In the official market, the Central Bank of Cuba maintained the Segment III rate at 634 CUP per dollar and 739 CUP per euro. There remains a notable gap between these official rates and the prices prevailing in the informal market, reflecting ongoing pressure on the national currency.
